How that works is worth stating plainly, because most tutoring sites are vague about it. In Gurugram, a tutor comes to your home. Everywhere else, classes are online — live, one-to-one, at a fixed weekly time with the same tutor. We would rather say that than take a booking in a city where nobody can reach you.
Online is not a lesser version. It is the same tutors and the same plan; the student works through problems while the tutor watches and corrects in the moment, rather than a week later on a marked sheet. For most families it is also easier to keep going — no travel at either end, and evening slots that survive school and coaching.

The exams we prepare students for
JEE Main. Three hours, 75 questions, 300 marks — 25 per subject, of which five are numerical-entry. Since 2025 all five are compulsory, so a weak chapter can no longer be sidestepped. Marking is +4 and −1, which makes guessing a losing strategy and accuracy under time the thing worth training.
JEE Advanced. Two three-hour papers on the same day, 360 marks, taken by students who clear Main. Its questions cross chapters by design, and it does not publish its own marking scheme until the paper opens — recent years have totalled 306, 360 and 372. Preparing for it means preparing for a paper whose shape you will not know in advance.
BITSAT. 130 questions in three hours, and the fastest paper of the three. Thirty of those questions are English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning, which appear in no JEE syllabus at all. Finish all 130 and the exam offers twelve more that can only add marks, which turns speed into a scoring strategy.
Class 11. No board exam, and about half the JEE syllabus. Gaps built here are invisible in school results and expensive two years later, which is why this is the year a tutor is worth most.
Class 12. Boards and JEE within weeks of each other, sharing most of a syllabus. The students who struggle are usually the ones who prepared for them one after the other rather than together.
Three subjects, taught by specialists
Ranks are decided by a student's weakest subject, not their strongest — so we match subject specialists rather than a general science tutor who covers all three.
Mathematics is the most trainable of the three. Calculus and Coordinate Geometry carry the most marks, and Vectors and 3D Geometry are the fastest marks per hour of study in the whole syllabus. Most students who struggle here were taught methods to reproduce rather than to choose between.
Physics is the subject students most often believe they are bad at, and most often are not. Almost every lost mark in mechanics is a setup error — the diagram, the forces, what is conserved — rather than a gap in knowledge. A tutor who cannot answer "why" without restating the formula is teaching for the wrong exam.
Chemistry is really three subjects sharing a name. Inorganic is memory-led and the highest-return part of the paper, answerable almost entirely from NCERT. Physical behaves like Physics. Organic cannot be crammed at all — it stands or falls on general organic chemistry being solid underneath.

A home tutor, or a coaching institute?
Both, for most students. They do genuinely different jobs, and the honest answer is not the one that sells more tuition.
A coaching institute gives structure, a full syllabus, a test series and a peer group to measure against. What it cannot do is stop for one student. In a batch of sixty, a student who lost the thread three chapters ago has no way to say so and no time in which to say it — and the material only accelerates from there.
A home tutor is the part that goes backwards. Working one-to-one, that gap can be found and closed while the coaching class carries on. Most difficulties in Class 12 trace to a chapter from Class 11, and going back is something a tutor can do and a batch cannot.
The second thing it changes is accountability. A weekly session with someone who checks last week's work is a much stronger structure than an intention to study more — particularly in Class 11, when nothing feels urgent yet.
If a student is not attending coaching at all, a tutor can carry the whole syllabus. That works, and it needs more sessions a week than most families first expect.
Choosing a tutor: what to check
- Do they teach the subject, or cover it? A Physics specialist and a science graduate who also takes Physics are not the same thing, and the difference shows up around the harder chapters.
- Do they know the exam? JEE Advanced, BITSAT and the CBSE boards each have their own pattern, marking and idea of a hard question. A tutor who has not worked with that exam recently will teach the syllabus correctly and the exam badly.
- Watch the demo class, not the CV. Does the tutor let the student attempt first? Do they ask *why* after a wrong answer, or just supply the right one? Does the student talk?
- Ask what happens when a chapter does not land. A tutor with a real answer — go back, re-teach, change the approach — is worth more than one who has never had it happen.
- Check the practical things. The same tutor every week, a fixed time, and someone to talk to if the arrangement stops working.
